THE SEVENTH YEAR

2014. Normally I'd go "we're so living in the future" , but this time it's more like "mah, 2014, whatever, been there already". Partly because I've had so many things scheduled for this new year since way back already and  partly since I feel half of what I read in the papers are prognoses and plans for a few years ahead anyway. But mostly since I've been so busy this fall I didn't really notice how fast it went nor have the time to do the usual closure thoughts for the year that was.

As you know I don't make any resolutions, although I've tried it with improvements. Three-four year in a row, the same things to improve, and still no change. I find myself unbelievable! (Although this year I am on in it with the bookkeeping right now, instead of panicking the night before it's due to hand over...)

So. Now it's 2014 and that makes this my seventh year of blogging - that's such a long time already!
My blog itself gets one year older around the same time that I do, in October, and the previous years I've reflected on that during this days.  But this year it's suddenly January already! My first blog post ever was about my 26th birthday. (I remember where we went and what I wore trough that but can't recall what I actually did :) That was back when I only posted with drawings; I had this idea of remaining incognito. Well, that was indeed then and now is now.  My 32nd birthday was, apart from the moments travelling and on stage, spent in a very crowded backstage among feathers glitter and suitcases at the Stockholm Burlesque Festival.  So in the spirit of my very first post, I made a similar drawing of that occasion.

Blogging has changed and developed trough the years, not just for me, as of course one develops as a blogger all the time - hopefully - but also in general. I've see that people also read blogs in a different manners than before. I know some readers have been here almost since day one which is pretty fascinating! I have a few blogs I've followed for almost a decade too. Some blogs come and others go, and I've noticed I seldom keep up with one for more than a few years - they either repeat themselves too much or then never seem to find their own flow, while there are a few that balance there on the golden path in between. Nowadays I hardly ever have the time to keep up with any blogs at all though.

As you've noticed I've had a lot of background ads on the blog the past year, which is part of my collaboration with Indiedays Inspiration. I know their color schemes sometimes lowers the over-all aesthetics of my blog, but it has become rather inevitable to have them there. As each blog post takes up at least a couple of hours time the income they can give me is welcome, especially now since I'm self employed.

I've said it before, that blogs are such a media that mostly only exists on their front page, and have the rest, apart from the well-linked and well-pinned posts, easily vanish into the abysses of the internet (to sometimes pop up in the most weird of google searches). So I've usually had my 'browse the year back-giveaway', to let some air into the archives. But this year I'll skip it. I'll try to come up with something else fun in the near future instead!

THE OTHER SIDE

When you blog you sort of make a product, or create an image of yourself and your life, choosing to show some things and leave others out.  Personal things of course, but also when it comes to details. Being selective does not mean that you make things up (well some do perhaps), but all things are not always like they seem. Or, sure they are, but there's always another side to it. Posting a picture of a nice stilleben in the kitchen with some dirty dishes magically cropped away from the photo is not necessarily faking it, it's just choosing to show a prettier side of the mundane. Or say a more fun, or interesting, or witty side, depending on the take of it. Perhaps you choose to show the dishes too sometimes, but then you manage to take a photo from just the right angle of the best cups and make that pile of dishes look fab. Either way they are still there to be washed in real life. Few people strut around in floral dresses eating cake in the sunshine all day, but the image of that is perhaps nicer than the one of someone getting down on their knees for the n:th time to pick up bread crumbs and goo off the floor (or filling the dishwasher with that pile). However, the knowledge of that that happens too, in addition to the strutting, can be a good add to the whole package. At least I think it's good to remember.

Sunday for example - I did get breakfast in bed but as Eddi had to go out and work in the field for most of the day (it's that time of the year) I was the one to clean up after it, and the breakfast of the others too (that how it usually is, isn't it, the kitchen a mess after a nice surprise, it's almost mandatory?).
And moments before the little one was sleeping peacefully like in the pictures he had done this for example:

With all rolls.
Later he tripped over on his little kick-mobile and burst both lip and nose. (Sniff!)

Also the porch behind my legs and cats looks like this for the moment...

And some of my newly planted plants are dead by now.

UPDATES AND INSPIRATION

As comments come and go, sometimes more, sometimes less, I've made these small positive reaction buttons for you after each posts. As most of you probably have noticed by now. (In fact I've had them for over a year but as my template is so old school they would not show and I had to ask my old pal google for help, which usually solves most problems, the technical ones at least).

Then, I don't know how many of you ever browse or  notice the tags, but those of you who do might have seen some strange words among those lately, which would be tags in Finnish. If you wonder why, the reason is that I am part of a new inspiration network for Finnish bloggers, which was launched today.

Indiedays Inspiration is a site hosted by Finland's most popular blog portal Indiedays, gathering posts in a feed from 300 of the most interesting blogs over here. You can find and follow new blogs trough the inspiration site.

I totally suck at following anything, I never log in to Bloglovin' anymore for example, but I've tried out the inspiration site before it launched and it actually works quite easily, you can just pick articles from the flow, gathered under headlines such as fashion, food, lifestyle etc (hence the tags in Finnish I mentioned) without following anyone in particular.  Most of the blogs are in Finnish, some in Swedish, a few in english (like mine, well, obviously).

What else? I am having weekly giveaways over at my Facebook site  (which yes, you have to like to be able to join) at the end of each week. You can find the competitions straight trough this link: http://bit.ly/PonDjs
There will still be contest over here at the blog as usual every now and then too!

Last, my affiliate for this month is Aha! Shopping which offers you a 5% off, equal to their silver membership duiscount, with the coupon code: freelancers! Add freelancers to the coupon code bar and press validate before checkout and you're good to go.

REALITY CHECK

(If you were live and kickin' in the 90's you'll remember this)

Sometimes I visit blogs where the person is presented in a so unbearably hip way I wonder how they manage to actually fucking breathe. (And I think "Oh Come On" but perhaps that's just because I can be a real asshole sometimes.) And I see others - mostly young and waiting for things to happen I guess - heedlessly swoon over certain blogs or persons on the internet. It is true some persons lives are more interesting and some lives more fabulous, but one thing about blogging is that you very much get to -and should- choose which side or which things you do show. Some choose to blog about certain things, some about other, some a little about everything. Some do it more some do it less personal. Of course one reason why I read and browse blogs is exactly for those pretty and inspirational pictures and details! And often also for laughs and eye rolling and quite much for that little peak in to someone's elses life, that's different from mine. Or perhaps even similar.

But what everyone should remember is that everybody out there does go to the toilet and gather up unwashed dishes at some point, nobody wakes up every day with a sexy bed hair fluff nor lives a life full of just rosy stuff, everyone has their issues although blogged images may tell a different story. (For example our home does of course not always look as sleek as in the pictures I post, it is most often messy. Sometimes it's a charming mess, mostly just terrible. And we all know what I look like at work :)

I'm not making a bigger than life point here, only saying that everyone should take it with a little hint of salt, and no one, no matter how pretentious one may be, should ever take oneself too seriously.

Well, you all go on and have a nice night now!

(I will enjoy my evening with a glass of red and some Puccini, yes. But by a messy table and with oh so un-attended hair.)

ONE THOUSAND AND MORE

The Freelancer's Fashion Blog has over one thousand followers trough blogger and some hundreds at other places. I think that's pretty amazing! And it makes me all honoured and humble.

See, very humble and full of appreciation.

You know I always visit each and every blog of yours through the comments you leave me, even though I may not always comment back. Thats if I don't have anything smart to say. And as said before, I have a terrible lot of things to do, so sometimes it may take me shamelessly long to answer an email of yours. But eventually it will happen :)

Now I'm off for a wedding elsewhere, but keep you eyes open in the near future since there will be more giveaways and treats coming up...

But until then, have a lovely weekend everybody!
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

EARLY BIRD

There will be a pyjamas party over at Dotti's blog.

As I tend to sleep like Marilyn I'll just join in my morning kimono instead. And as much as I would've wanted to take it easy this morning and stay in bed all day long I had to get up early, pack a whole lot of stuff and head to a studio far out of town. But more on that tomorrow.

WINNER

As you know my "All that was before 2010"-competition/giveaway ended last week. Thanks to all who participated, and thank you for all your ovely comments. I always appreciate every comment and all feedback I get on any post (except for those copy-paste-read-my-blog comments, spam and sneaky marketing of course :) and I do always pay a visit to everyone that leaves me a comment, even if I do not always have the time to comment back. The same goes for email I receive, sometimes it may take a very long time for me to answer, but one day I eventually will.

The winner will receive this lovely vintage mirror necklace. If you fancy it but weren't the lucky one this time, and if you're around Helsinki, there are a few more similar ones at Hoochie Mama Jane, from where I also got this one!

And our winner is....

...Prefecta!

Her favorite post was this one; a post I was rather happy with when made, even though I didn't know how to code the images larger back then:

If some of you are not familiar with My Milk Toof yet, I suggest you take your time and browse trough the whole site. You'll love it! It's the sweetest blog I know. The book is sold out by now though, but I'm happy I was there in time to get myself a copy.

FIVE FAVS

Some time ago I was tagged by darling Vintageportalen's Jessica to list five of my favorite following:

Acessories

Oh, you know how I can never choose between things or make up my mind but this is what I'm feeling for the moment then:
Brooches - since those apparently are the only jewellery I seem to wear these days
Scarves - as bows around my neck or in my hair. Preferably polka dot ones.
Belts - At least half of my outfit contains belts. Around the waist only. Never on the hips.
Lingerie - an important part of what's beneath any outfit, but having anything of it show is a big no-no for me (unless it's a burlesque performance of course :)
My leather jacket - may not count as an accessory in the eyes of many, but for me it kind of is, since what jacket I choose to wear defines how the outfit end up looking, making it more lady, cute or rock chick. A jacket can actually change the whole outfit and that's why this is my favourite item to accent things up with.

Clothes

Trashy Diva silk dress - because it's so pretty
My mother's old safari dress - because it's so easy to wear wherever, whenever
My Rock Steady Dress - because I look great in it ;)
The black skirt - because it has a huge hem and is endlessly versatile.
My mom's old wrap-around skirt - because it has such fresh colours.

Shoes

My granny's old black suede ones - too small for me to ever dance in, but great for small steps and makes my feet look tiny
My purple pumps - the perfect shape of toe, heel and everything
The Minna Parikka's - a quality shoe is comfortable no matter how high the heel and so are these. And very pretty too of course.
The Blue Ones - new shoes are always one of the favourites. And the bow is like the bow!
My Raspberry Sandals - The best bargain ever. And so summery!

*******************************

I'm not really in to tagging anyone myself, it somehow reminds me of exchanging stickers in elementary school, picking out girls to do a N.K.O.T.B dance for morning assembly, or choosing the baseball team in gym class (pick me! link me! you know...). Well not really, just a little bit, sometimes...

But, but, since there are some tags I haven't (yet, sorry :) answered I'll go and tag those who tagged me in return! Because that's just, eh, fair. Hehe. So I'll tag Ilona, Nataly and Sam. That makes only three even though this tag wants you to go on and tag five. Oops.

DEER AS CUPCAKES

I have been awarded by Parapluie with this cute cupcake-y award. Thanks!

Sunday, 8 March 2009

OH SHOES!

When it comes to material things in my posession, my shoes are what I love the most. Of all pretty things one can wear shoes are for me what crowns the outfit. I've always been fascinated with the sculptural shape of the high heeled shoe; the shapes of the heel, the line of the shoe, the rounded toe.

My appartement is full of shoes in different places; I have more shoes than I have time to wear, but why hide all of them in a dark closet for no-one to admire? I wouldn't decorate my kitchen with a pair of shoes but they can look pretty nice elsewhere at home, while waiting to one day be worn...

I'm alowing my shoe collection to grow by the principal "if it's in a colour I do not yet have" and I recently cheered myself up a bit by finnally getting myself a pair of blue shoes!

Just like you can vary your clothing with different accessories you can actually also vary or re-new your shoes, by adding a ribbon, brooch or bow to them to make them go better along with some outfit for example. I got a tip from a reader of mine about a site called Bling My Boots, from where you can order different chains, ribbons and other apparel to customize your boots with, and give the same shoe many different looks. Rahter brilliant yes, but even more brilliant -and affordable- it is to do all of this yourself. Like when I bowed my bootlets for less than two euros, like NanĂ³ did with her boots, or like Oriane does all the time, boots and heels alike! Basically there's no limit for what you couldn't do - paint, glue, attach- but do it with precision. Personally I don't like the too "home made" look, that just reminds me of hippies and emo teens with felt-marker decorated shoes (been there, done that and thank god that was ages ago).

THANK YOU

Wohoo, my fringe is back again after accidetally cutting it too short last month. I had to hide it in different ways to avoid looking like a medieval monk...

I been slightly abscent from the blogosphere lately, I know; I've been so busy so there has actually been rather little to post about. I haven't really answered any comments properly either. But with shows every week, some propblems with our lovely tax office latley and a personal life resembling a rollercoaster, what can you do...

Well, anyway, as you may see from the picture; I got my leopard gloves! Thanks to a tip from a Finnish reader I found the exact same gloves I had but lost, for sale at a auciton site, unworn. So now they're mine again, phew :) But thanks to everyone lese for great suggestions too!

Also a big thanks to Kate and Madeleinemiranda for awarding me! Highly apreciated every time :)

Last but not least; I can be terribly unorganized from time to time, and I'm no better here either. If I don't do something immidetialy, it will most likely remain undone. This time I'm referring to my link list - if you feel you've been left out or want in then send me an email! (But if you don't really read my blog and just want more traffic then don't bother ok).

And more goodies; remember you can get a lot of eye-candy if you come to see our show at Botta tonight! It's a girls-only party, but it doesn't matter which way you bend if you want to see our show and have a fun night :)

Watch out for a toothache since I have even more sweetness coming up here;
I've been given the "Fabulous Blog" award by amazingly talented Mothersvea and super chic Janet, both quite fabulous themsleves! Thank you girls! I'm not going to tag anyone further since ther are many fabulous blogs out there and I don't like to choose betwen things.

Have a sweet weekend everyone!

PAIRING GREY / 7

I haven't done any christmas shopping yet ... except for myself - I gave myself this grey little bag as a pre christmas present. (Umm, or I didn' t actually, my Visa card did. Porridge time in January!). I paired it with a pair of grey shoes and felt rather grannyish until i added the big red bow in my hair. Then I felt like an overgrown seven year old.

Dress - Jenny Hällström
Bolero - old H&M
Shoes - Bullboxers
Bag - Global Accessories
Bow-thing in hair - Selfmade

And speaking of seven (Ha! I'm being real smooth here now :); I was tagged by Betsy (lovely blog, make sure to pay it a visit!) some time ago to reveal seven facts about myself.

So, one has to tell 7 things about oneself, both normal and a bit more strange, and tag seven people (+ the regular : link the one who challenged you and leave a comment about this to the tagged ones...)
Here we go:

1) I don't believe in horoscopes

but

2) I still consider myself to be a very typical libra: I'm very much of this and that black and white; there are a lot of opposites and constrast about me. Plus I am the worst ever to make desicions or to choose between two things

3) I'm a vegetarian. I used to be a vegan, but then sushi and milk chocolate took over... these days I use both dairy products and eat fish (and therefore feel a bit guilty from time to time).
But I'll never have meat or puoltry again.

4) I'm totally addicted to Powercow Chocolate milkshake (those small ones in ugly packing) and Dr.Oetkers Vanilla- and berry pudding. Must have once a day, at least :)

5) I can be quite the heartbraker, both intentionally and unintentionally. Mostly the later.

6) I like fashion as a phenomena and as an artform, but in general I don't really give a damn about whats happening on the catwalk and have no understanding whatsoever for the sort of worshipping of models that some girls have (now some readers are going to hate me I guess :)

7) The other job I have, apart from running my design business, is being a supervisor in the harbour, where I work twelve days out of 21. That's labour in grease and boots, bossing the boys around. As mentioned above, I am all about contrasts.

Uuuh, I always find it hard to tag others and I have no ida how many have ansvered this... This time, in honour of our Independence Day (which was last week), I'll tag only fellow Finnish bloggers: Kitten, Jenni, the Evil Dressmaker, Ranna, NanĂ³, Ilona and the Suburban Queen!

UMMM...

I'm not usually not much for contests and stuff but if I find myself in one it would of course be nice to, well, win or something.

So if you find me nice and fabulous and stylish and all that why don't go on and put in a little vote for me in the Supermelons Best Real Style Contest?
Time's until December 19th!
Thanks in advance, heheh :)

EDIT : ...but in order to vote you have to register first. You'll get a membership to The Supermelon then, but they won't start sending you any emails or such though.

SOME MORE OF THAT YES PLEASE!

Mission for today; visit Dear Martha!

Dear Martha, run by Josefin, is a delicious blog about crafting, baking and deily luxury. It is full of good looking recipies and decorative, pretty small things to do for your home or to perhaps make a rainy day a little bit more fun. I love looknig at things like that, it gives me a lot of ideas and makes me wish I had more of that luxurious free time! There are also some great links listed at Dear Martha, like one about Tiki cupcakes!

Today Joesfin has posted a little interwiev with me, where I also give a quick tip om how to alter a dress in a simple way.
